In Which I Cannot Wrap A Box...

So today, while perusing Pintrest as usual, I found this nifty craft for a small file/paper organizer (source: http://familyfun.go.com/teachers-corner/classroom-crafts/in-style-in-boxes-844499/), which will be oh so useful during the school year, and I thought, "Why not? I can't possibly ruin this one!" So here is my attempt: 

All I used was two cereal boxes, duct tape, scissors, and wrapping paper. *note* That wrapping paper was literally the only roll that wasn't Christmas/Birthday/Super-old Baby paper.

Just snip off the top flaps...

And tape the boxes together...

And wrap it like a present!!

This was the only angle in which my wrapping skills look semi decent. :)

 It works nicely for holding paper/notebooks!!! Can you tell I'm ready for school??

A Half-Victory...

My apologies for this long, unplanned hiatus. The last sewing project went on a terrible downward spiral, and I had no way to rescue it, and I then got so busy I didn't have time to craft until today! So today, this project came right from Pintrest: http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2011/12/holder-for-charging-cell-phone-made-from-lotion-bottle.html. I claim no originality except in my failure, which I will get to later...it's still a little too sad for me to think about ;). Also, apologies for poor picture quality. I was too excited to really care about nice pictures this time :).

I started with this:

Then I traced the same outline from the blog and cut it out!!

I had trouble washing all the glue from the label off...oh well.

 Then it was time for my favorite part!

MODGE PODGE!!!

 I used Modge-Podge to coat the bottle so I could cover it and make it pretty!

I Modge-Podged the crap out of this thing...no mistakes this time!

 I covered it with some scrap cloth and let it dry, and then cut out the hole so I could use it!

After looking at it for awhile, I decided it was too plain so I added a strip of white just to break it up a bit. :)

I love it! It's so cute!

So here's the sad part: I meant to use it for charging my phone when I go places that might have outlets in weird places, but the phone doesn't fit!!! My charger plug is big and bulky so when I hang the container on the plug, I can't fit my phone in it :(...I was minorly devastated for a few minutes, until I remembered I can still use my iPod in it! Oh well...I can always make another some other day...anyways, Happy Crafting!

Terry-Cloth Tuesday

Two days in a row!?! I am on a roll, my friends. Today I decided to create something that I have loved for a long time. For my birthday one year, my dad got me something called a "turbie-twist" and I love it! It's a little towel made to wrap your hair up after a shower so you don't have a bulky full-sized towel weighing your neck down (any ladies out there with me?). At the risk of looking ridiculous, I will provide an example:

Annnddd moving on.

 I found this old towel in our basement and decided to make another one! My current one is so well loved that there are some pulls and bleach and I just thought a spare might be a good idea. To start, I laid out my towel out and put the turbie-twist on top.

My supplies: an old towel, straight pins, scissors, and my pattern!

 Then I pinned an outline about half an inch around the original pattern to allow for mistakes and seams.

 Cutting it out was a challenge, I had no idea how hard it could be to cut a towel! Make sure you use good scissors if you ever make this endeavor your self!

Ah! Finally, it's taking shape!

After sewing the top, rounded part of the towel, I cut a strip of elastic to make the little loop that holds the whole thing in place

All I had to do was loop it, pin it in place on the tip of the curve, and sew it on from the inside. In hindsight, I would have added that before I sewed the initial seam just to make it easier.

The last step was to hem the straight edges for a cleaner look! I'll admit, I rushed it a bit out of excitement and it may not be the most straight line, but it's functional!

Voila! It's finished!

All in all, I am proud of this one! I can't wait to shower and use it! It is a little bigger, but hey, I am a beginner after all!

Let's Start Simple...

Alright, now I havn't sewn in oh, I don't know....years. So to start, I didn't want to get ahead of myself and blow out my machine and motivation in one fell swoop. So I made a headband. I got the fabric for 75 cents and the metal ring was from a belt at the same sale for 50 cents. I was a happy girl that day :). 

Couldn't get any simpler than this, right? Right.

To begin, I looped the ribbon (fabric? I'm not sure...its an odd material...) through the ring and just pinned it. 

Easy enough...no sweat yet!

Then I just sewed a straight line, and then lather, rinse, repeat to the other side! Easy as that!

I've got a headband!

If I had to do it again, I might have given myself an extra half inch...it's a bit tough to put on but at least it will stay in place!

Love it! I enjoy headbands but sometimes can't find any I like so this is a new favorite!

Well, as you can see...my craft was super easy today and only took a few minutes!! And it only cost a $1.25 to make!

Well hello!

I know I already have a blog ( inlivingcolor22.blogspot.com in case you havn't seen it ) but I have been bitten by the Pintrest bug and have been dying to do "crafty things", as I like to put it, for quite some time. Garage sales are my weakness and I tend to purchase knick knacks that could somehow be a craft or project and to my mothers chagrin, I've acquired quite a bit of dust collectors. I've been putting it off for a long time but I finally dug out my old sewing machine and pulled it together. So, this blog will forever be dedicated to my crafty endeavors, no matter how pathetic or chaotic they turn out.
